The Carolina Bagboys finished fifth among 104 teams in 12-and-under baseball competition in Cooperstown, N.Y., home of the baseball hall of fame.

Charlie Stevens, who guided the Dunn Majors All-Stars to third place in the Dixie Youth World Series in Lumberton earlier this summer, coaches the Bagboys travel team.

The Bagboys went 8-1 in Cooperstown, hitting 40 home runs during the tournament and outscoring opponents, 114-37.

The lone loss came to a team that had players from four states.

“They fly their players in,” Stevens said. “You run into teams like that when you play at this level.”

Bagboy batters had 114 hits while the Bagboy pitchers posted 68 strikeouts.

“Crazy numbers,” said Stevens, a former Triton and Campbell player. “A time in my baseball career I will never forget.”
