BC Astros drop opener

SALEM, Va. — The Salem Red Sox topped the visiting Buies Creek Astros 4-3 on Thursday night in the Carolina League baseball opener for both clubs.

The hosts scored three runs in the first inning and added one run in the second. The Astros scored lone runs in the first, third and sixth innings.

First baseman Troy Sieber went 2-for-4 for Buies Creek with two doubles. Abraham Toro-Hernandez and Chas McCormick had RBIs for the Astros. Osvaldo Duarte had a triple.

Daniel Gonzalez had 10 strikeouts in four innings in recording a save.
