Potomac evens series with BC

BUIES CREEK — Visiting Potomac topped the Buies Creek Astros 8-2 on Saturday to even the Carolina League baseball series at 1-1.

The Astros hold a half-game lead over the Winston-Salem Dash in the Southern Division standings. Potomac and Buies Creek were scheduled to meet again today (Sunday, June 3) at 2 p.m.

An RBI single by Chas McCormick in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Troy Sieber with the go-ahead run as the Astros topped Potomac 6-5 at Jim Perry Stadium on Friday night.

The Astros (31-23) moved into first place in the Southern Division as Down East (30-24) lost 4-1 at Myrtle Beach on Friday.

Buies Creek’s Abraham Toro hit his eighth homer of the season with McCormick aboard in the third on Friday night.

McCormick and Ronnie Dawson had two hits each for the Astros.

Ronel Blanco (4-1) got the win in relief.
