The Buies Creek Astros split a doubleheader hosted by the Salem (Va.) Red Sox on Sunday after a game Saturday was rained out.

Sunday’s games were each scheduled for seven innings. Both were decided in the eighth inning.

In the new minor league format, a runner is put on second base to start each extra inning.

In the first game Sunday, Osvaldo Duarte’s sacrifice fly scored Kristian Trompiz as Buies Creek took a 1-0 win. Trompiz had gone from second to third on a wild pitch.

Salem won the second game, 2-1.

The Astros (1-3) start a three-game series at Lynchburg tonight (Monday, April 9), weather permitting.

Buies Creek’s first home game of the season is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. against Salem at Jim Perry Stadium on the Campbell campus.
