BC Astros shut out Wood Ducks

Hector Perez and Brandon Bielak (3-1) combined for a shutout as host Buies Creek took a 3-0 Carolina League baseball win over the Down East Wood Ducks on Tuesday night.

Buies Creek (13-6) outhit the visitors 13-4 as the Astros pitchers totaled 14 strikeouts, including nine by Bielak, who went the last four and one-third innings.

Buies Creek scored three runs in the third as Abraham Toro, Chas McCormick and Kristian Trompiz had RBIs.

Trompiz went 3-for-3 with a walk. Getting two hits each were Ronnie Dawson, McCormick and Osvaldo Duarte.

The Astros have a 2.5-game lead in the Southern Division standings.

Buies Creek hosts Down East (8-11) tonight at 7.
