BC Astros turn back Wilmington, 7-2

J.J. Matijevic hit his 11th home run of the season and reliever Gabriel Valdez (6-4) had six strikeouts in three innings as Buies Creek took a 7-2 Carolina League baseball win over visiting Wilmington (Del.) on Tuesday night.

Jonathan Arauz had a run-scoring triple in the third inning to put the Astros ahead to stay. Bryan De La Cruz drove in a pair of runs for Buies Creek.

The Astros improved to 23-15 for the second half season and are tied for first in the Southern Division with Winston-Salem.

Corey Julks and Chuckie Robinson had doubles for Buies Creek.
