Zeke Brock was back on Wednesday night with 42 points as Cape Fear Christian Academy took a 72-64 nonconference varsity boys basketball victory at Fayetteville Christian.

Brock was under the weather and missed an 80-41 home triumph over Father Capodanno on Tuesday night, but he was on top of his game for a rematch with the Warriors, who had taken a 64-55 win over CFCA in the final game of the Eagles’ Senior Classic on November 10.

Eighth-grader Brandon Surles had 17 points for CFCA in the second meeting. Freshmen Elijah Ellis and Caden Scarborough added five points each for the Eagles, who trailed by one point at halftime.

CFCA improved to 8-12 overall with its second straight victory.

“Great defense overall,” said CFCA coach Dwain Ellis, who also was pleased with the effort of the Lady Eagles in a 66-39 loss.

“They all played very well,” Ellis said of the CFCA girls (6-10), who trailed 38-20 at the half. “The best effort versus Fayetteville Christian since I’ve been coaching the girls. They forced many turnovers and didn’t give up.”

The Eagles took a 51-35 triumph in the junior varsity boy game to improve to 12-2.

“We started very slow,” noted CFCA coach Matthew Beasley after his team overcame a 20-16 halftime deficit.

Caden Scarborough had 17 points in the opening game Wednesday. Kayden Dunkins scored 11 and Justin Chestnut added eight.

Lathan Wilborn had 10 rebounds. Conner Parrish and Chestnut grabbed seven each.

Braxton Watt hit a game-ending 3-pointer for the Eagles.

CFCA has Homecoming on Friday with middle school and varsity games against Cresset Christian of Durham.
