Zeke Brock provided a highlight for Cape Fear Christian Academy on Monday night although the 1-A Eagles were swept at home by 2-A power Trinity Christian.

Brock scored the 2,000th point of his high school career early in the third quarter on a driving layup that caromed high off the backboard.

The senior guard finished with 19 points in a 91-56 nonconference loss to the Crusaders (16-5).

CFCA slipped to 10-9 overall going into a Mid-Carolina Conference contest at home against Bradford Academy tonight at 7 p.m. despite 14 points from Caden Scarborough and nine from Elijah Ellis.

CFCA had lost on the road to Trinity, 80-58, on November 7, but the Crusaders have added some football players to the lineup since then.

Varsity girls

The Lady Eagles lost, 56-23, in their season opener at Trinity but were much more competitive in the rematch.

CFCA led 37-32 in the late stages before Trinity regrouped for a 40-37 win.

Perri Caroline Ennis had 12 points for the Lady Eagles (4-8) and Glenn McLamb scored 11.

Ella John Dupree and Laney Trainer each had six points for CFCA, which is 3-3 in the MCC going into this evening’s matchup with Bradford. Savannah Autry added two points for the Lady Eagles.

Junior Varsity boys

Trinity rallied from a 30-22 halftime deficit to halt an 8-game winning streak for the junior Eagles, 50-45.

“Trinity made some adjustments and we didn’t have a good third quarter on either end of the court,” said CFCA coach Bill Parrish. “Foul trouble was an issue and we had to adjust our game plan. … Proud of the effort against a very good team.”

Justin Chestnut had 13 pounts and nine rebounds for the Eagles (8-2). Fisher Stancil had nine points. Conner Parrish had eight points, seven rebounds and blocked three shots.

Taylor Smith scored seven points. Eli Burns and Elijah Ellis each had three points. Greyson Avent added two points.

Next action for the JV boys will be Friday at home in an MCC matchup against Crossroads at 4 p.m. The JV is 5-0 in league play.
