Sophomore Gracie Byrd scored four goals on Monday night to lead host Triton to a 5-1 varsity girls soccer win in its season opener over Smithfield-Selma.
Byrd’s first goal came in the ninth minute on an assist by Grace DeBoer. Byrd’s second goal in the 13th minute was unassisted.
The Hawks led 3-0 at the half as Byrd scored again in the 30th minute with Billie Kate Pope assisting.
Macy Allen of SSS cut the lead to 3-1 in the 42nd minute. Pope scored off a deflection in the 49th minute to restore Triton’s 3-goal advantage.
Byrd’s final goal came in the 51st minute on an assist from Elizabeth Lopez.
Triton visits Cleveland (2-1) on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
