C-E posts shutout vs. Shughart

The Coats-Erwin Middle School baseball team shut out visiting Shughart, 12-0, on Monday as starter Dillon Faircloth and Jamari Thompson combined for a two-hitter while striking out 11.

The Coats-Erwin softball team won, 25-0, in three innings.

The Falcons improved to 4-1 in baseball while Shughart slipped to 2-4.

Jalen Evans went 3-for-3 and scored three runs as Coats-Erwin collected 14 hits. Hunter Thompson, Riley Colville, Shay Jackson and Jacob Hartman had two hits each.

Getting one hit apiece were Jamari Thompson, Faircloth and Hayden Pope.

Hartman, Wyatt Avery, Jaleel White, Kolton Sherman and Gavin Klein were credited by coach Joey Powell for their defensive play.

The Falcons visit Highland on Wednesday (April 11).

In softball, Caylon Avery threw a no-hitter for the Falcons, giving up three walks and a hit batter while striking out four.

Avery had three hits, two RBIs and four runs scored. Kimah Warren had two hits, including a double, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Gracie Byrd had two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored. Ava Blackman had two hits and four runs scored. Marley Colville had one hit and two runs scored. Juliana Dinh had four runs scored.

Jaliyah McDougald and Ashari Watlington scored two runs apiece. Carleigh Hemby scored once.
