Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity boys basketball team successfully defended its championship in the Senior Classic on Saturday at CFCA with a 68-63 win over Community Christian of Wilson.
Caden Scarborough had 20 points and five rebounds as the Eagles improved to 3-0.
Kayden Dunkins had 16 points and four rebounds.
CFCA went ahead to stay in the fourth quarter and managed to hold off the Cyclones with nine of 18 free throw shooting in the final period.
Community hits 10 shots from beyond the arc, but Dunkins blocked a 3-pointer that led to a transition basket that provided a huge swing in the final minute.
“Intensity was thick from start to finish,” said Eagles coach Dwain Ellis. “We gave them their only loss last season (2023 Senior Classic semifinals).
“They were a tough, talented and disciplined team. Winning two close games, back to back, gives us confidence and a good start to the season.”
CFCA topped Southeastern Christian of Shallotte, 60-51, on Friday night. The Warriors downed Village Christian, 64-44, in the boys consolation game Saturday.
Justin Chestnut and Lathan Wilborn each scored eight points for the Eagles in the final. Elijah Ellis had eight rebounds and six assists. Conner Parrish scored five points with four rebounds. Cade Godwin had seven points.
Varsity Girls
The CFCA varsity girls were without several players on Saturday in a 49-23 loss to Community in the girls championship game.
CFCA (1-1) was led by 10 points from Savannah Autry, who delivered a well-sung rendition of the national anthem before the boys game.
Christanna Wynns and Mary Andemichael each had four points for the Lady Eagles.
Hailey Wangelin scored three points and Jada Johnson added two.
Southeastern topped Village, 46-33, in the girls consolation contest.

CFCA visits Fayetteville Christian for the junior varsity boys season opener on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Varsity girlss and varsity boys matchups will follow.
