Camels lose first league game

ASHEVILLE – Campbell dropped its first Big South Conference baseball game Friday night as UNC Asheville defeated the Camels, 20-7, at Greenwood Baseball Field.

Asheville’s Eric Whitecavage (2-1) earned the win, tossing two and two-thirds innings of relief with one earned run. Jordan Fulbright pitched the final five innings to earn his first save of the year.

Wes Noble (3-4) took the loss as he was charged with three earned runs in the top of the first.

Tyler Anshaw had three extra-base hits to lead the Camels offensively. Bryce Myers drove in two runs with his fifth homer of the season, while Matthew Barefoot had a hit and two RBIs.

Kole Harris capped off a seven-run fourth for the Bulldogs with a three-run homer. Tyler Serricchio also drove in four runs for UNC Asheville with two singles and an RBI walk.

Trailing 6-0 after the first, the Camels put up five runs in the top of the second to pull within one. Myers drew a bases-loaded walk, then Anshaw hit his first triple of the season. Barefoot knocked an RBI single to score Anshaw and cut the lead to 6-5.

Myers cranked a solo shot to left field in the top of the fourth. Campbell scored its seventh run in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Barefoot.

The deciding game of the series is Saturday (March 30) at 1 p.m. at Greenwood Baseball Field.
