Camels stun Catamounts for Harris’ first win as coach

Campbell stunned host Western Carolina, 24-16, on Saturday for the first win in the Braxton Harris coaching era.

Junior quarterback Chad Mascoe Jr. completed 18 of 29 passes for 306 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for Campbell (1-1). Mascoe also ran one yard for a score.

Both scoring tosses went to V.J. Wilkins, who had five catches for 68 yards. The TDs covered 48 and 3 yards.

Grad transfer Mark Biggins carried 23 times for 81 yards.

Campbell plays at Rhode Island on Saturday, September 14, at 6 p.m.

Western (0-2) was coming off a competitive, 38-21 season-opening loss at No. 24 N.C. State. The Catamounts had a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Connor Lytton had a 30-yard field goal with 25 seconds left in the half that provided a 17-10 lead for the Camels at the break.

Campbell had over 36 minutes of possession time and led 444-287 in total yards.

Jojo Pace, Lakeem Rudolph, Jalen Brooks and Logan Livermon had interceptions for the Camels.

Western was favored by 13.5 points. Campbell had a nine percent chance of winning, according to fans’ picks on Yahoo Sports.

The Catamounts were ranked No. 17 among Football Championship Subdivision teams.
