CLINTON, S.C. – Campbell scored twice in the opening 10 minutes and went on to defeat Presbyterian, 3-0, in men’s soccer Saturday at Martin Stadium.

Kemy Amiche scored and provided an assist, while Edu Rodriguez recorded his first career shutout in the nets for the Camels (7-3-1, 2-0-0), who sit alone at the top of the Big South Conference standings with six points through two matches.

Jake Morris scored in the sixth minute and Tyler Young added his league-leading seventh strike in the 38th for CU, which led 3-0 at the break against a defense that entered the match ranked seventh in the country.

The match pitted the nation’s 14th-best attack (2.4 goals per game) against the Blue Hose, who were seventh in the country in goals-against average. However, the Camels scored as many goals in the opening half as PC had allowed (4-2-2, 0-1-1) through its first seven outings.

“It is great to go on the road and get three points, but even more important for our group was getting a shutout,” said Campbell head coach Dustin Fonder. “Now we have to recover and quickly shift our focus to Gardner-Webb.”

Rodriguez made two saves – one in each half – for the Camels, who limited PC to just three shots on the day.

Morris, who scored twice last March in Campbell’s 8-0 win over PC, put the Camels in front early with his first goal of the season. Amiche then doubled the lead less than five minutes later with his third strike.

Campbell improved to 11-0-1 all-time in games when Young scores or has an assist (7-0-1 this season).

PC keeper Aidan Montoure, who entered with the nation’s 12th-lowest goals-against average (0.43), finished with two saves.

NOTES: After claiming 5-straight wins vs. the Blue Hose, Campbell now owns a 9-5 edge in the series that began in 2011 when the Camels re-joined the Big South Conference… CU has scored multiple goals in 8 of its 11 outings, including a season-high 4 three times… Through 11 matches, 9 different Camels have scored… Campbell is now 20-1-3 in its last 24 games (regular season and tournament) vs. Big South foes… PC was unbeaten in its last six matches (4-0-2), including a 2-1 victory Sept. 7 at South Carolina, before Saturday’s loss… Campbell hosts Gardner-Webb Wednesday in a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.
