BUIES CREEK — Ricky Clemons scored 15 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds to lead Campbell to a 66-55 men’s basketball win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday at Gore Arena.
Cedric Henderson Jr. added 13 points and Messiah Thompson had 11 for the Camels, who used a 10-2 run to build a double-figure lead midway through the second half.
Clemons hit 6-of-7 from the floor and added five assists with just one turnover in 35 minutes for the Camels (4-1), who made 51 percent of their shots (26-51) and 8-of-15 threes (.533). A senior guard from Rolesville, Clemons posted a plus-21 rating on the day.
Zion Styles led Maryland Eastern Shore (2-3) with 10 points, while Chace Davis came off the bench to chip in nine for the Hawks, who shot just 35.8 percent (19-53) from the field and made just 4-of-24 (.167) beyond the arc.
Eastern Shore cut the Camel lead to 38-32 on Nathaniel Pollard’s put back with 17:17 to play. The Camels responded with a 10-2 burst to push the margin to 48-34 on Jordan Whitfield’s corner three with 13:17 remaining.
Clemons’ offensive rebound and stick back provided Campbell with its largest lead (52-26) with 9:13 to play. The Hawks were able to claw back within 60-51 on Styles’ free throws with 2:34 left, but drew no closer.
Campbell, which led for more than 38 minutes against a team that won in double overtime last Friday at Atlantic-10 member Fordham, finished with a 34-26 lead on the boards and had 20 assists on 26 made field goals.
The Camels return to action Saturday for a 3 p.m. tipoff at Stetson.
