Rogers leads Camels’ 45-31 CAA win at Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — NaQuari Rogers rushed for 152 yards and three touchdowns, leading Campbell over Monmouth 45-31 on Saturday at Kessler Stadium.

The Camels (2-1, 1-1 CAA) picked up their first CAA win, while handing Monmouth (1-2, 1-1 CAA) its first conference loss of the year.

Rogers carried the ball a career-high 21 times for 152 yards and three touchdowns, including the go-ahead 32 yard score with 9:37 to play in the fourth quarter. Rogers, a sophomore from Virginia Beach, also punched in TDs in the first quarter and in the third, giving Campbell its first lead, 24-23, with 6:49 on the clock in the third.

Monmouth led 23-7 with 4:19 to go in the second after Jaden Shirden’s 35 yard touchdown.

Campbell answered with 24 straight, including Chaney Fitzgerald’s 12-yard TD catch, and Caleb Dowden’s 42-yarder just before the half. Rogers’ second score, followed by a three yard keeper from Hajj-Malik Williams made it 31-23 Camels.

After Shirden’s 22 yard touchdown catch tied it at 31-31 early in the fourth quarter, Rogers’ 32 yard run, followed by Chris McKay, Jr.’s 26 yard scamper put Campbell ahead 45-31.

Shirden who ran for 111 yards on 19 carries with a touchdown in the first half, finished the day with 165 yards rushing, adding four catches for 31 yards.

The Hawks led 23-17 at the half before the Camels owned the second half, 28-8. Campbell piled up 249 second half yards, rushing for 118 yards in the fourth quarter alone.

Williams completed 16-of-25 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown, also rushing for 32 yards and another TD, while Fitzgerald hauled in eight catches for 54 yards and a score. Javonte Kinsey and VJ Wilkins combined for 69 yards on five catches.

Marquez McCray completed 19-of-36 passes for Monmouth for 211 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, with Dymere Miller grabbing nine balls for 138 yards.

CJ Tillman paced the Campbell defense with 10 tackles, with Ed Dennis and Monchovia Gaffney added seven stops apiece. Keevan Bailey and D’Marcus Harrington also added second half interceptions.

Ryan Moran totaled a game-high 12 tackles for the Hawks.

Campbell returns home on Saturday, hosting Elon at 6 p.m. on Parent’s Weekend in another CAA contest.
