BUIES CREEK    —    Thomas Harrington pitched a season-high eight innings to lead Campbell to a 5-2 baseball win over Presbyterian as the Camels opened Big South Conference play Friday night at Jim Perry Stadium.

The win moved Campbell to 10-11 overall, while PC fell to 8-13 for the season and 0-4 in the Big South.

Harrington lowered his earned run average to 1.32 on the way to his fifth win of the season. The sophomore fanned 10, his third outing of the year reaching double-digit strikeouts. He allowed six hits, two runs (both earned) and walked three. He faced just one batter over the minimum through five innings.

Harrington has now gone at least six innings in all six starts this season and is yet to allow more than two earned runs in a start while owning a strikeout to walk ratio of 56 to six.

The Camel offense kept pressure on PC for most of the night, scoring one run in five separate innings. Campbell scored in the second through fourth, thanks to a Dylan Koontz RBI groundout, a Logan Jordan RBI single and a Drake Pierson home run, his third of the year.

The Blue Hose drew to within a run on an RBI groundout in the sixth, and a solo home run in the seventh, the first of the season against Harrington.

Campbell quickly pushed the lead back to three runs thanks to a run-scoring double from Connor Denning and a Waldy Arias RBI groundout.

Campbell played error-free baseball and made a few big plays behind Harrington and Ryan Chasse. Jordan threw out a runner at the plate in the fifth and ended the game with a sliding grab in left.

Chasse earned the save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning and a pair of punchouts.

Jordan had a pair of hits on the evening, while six other Camels had a base knock and five different players drove in a run each.

A crowd of 1,033 was on hand for contest followed by Friday night fireworks. It is the third game of the season in the top-10 of all-time attendances at Jim Perry Stadium.
