FARMVILLE, Va. — Redshirt senior Allan Winans had his seventh quality start of the season as Campbell took down Longwood 8-4 in Big South Conference baseball Friday night.
A native of Bakersfield, Calif., Winans (4-4) earned the win as he threw six and two-thirds innings with two earned runs on eight hits. The right-hander collected five strikeouts and gave up just two walks as he faced 30 batters.
Campbell reliever Phil Simpson earned his first save of the season, tossing the final two outs of the game. The lefty from Holly Springs, had a pickoff and a swinging strikeout to end the game.
Steven Farkas (2-7) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on six hits over six complete frames.
Redshirt sophomore outfielder Matthew Barefoot posted an impressive line for the Camels, collecting two extra-base hits and driving in a team-high three runs. Additionally, senior designated hitter Jeff Hahs cranked a solo bomb for his first home run of the season.
Campbell (21-17, 13-3 Big South) jumped out to an early lead with a four spot in the top of the second.
Campbell goes for the series win over Longwood on Saturday (April 21) at Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
