C.B. Aycock survived a South Johnston comeback for a 34-28 Quad County 3-A Conference varsity football win at the Trojans’ Homecoming on Thursday night.
Daniel Frederick ran 22 times for 145 yards and two touchdowns for the Golden Falcons, who built a 34-7 lead at halftime in improving to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in league play. The visitors sandwiched two fumble returns for scores around a 96-yard TD run by Frederick in the first quarter.
South (3-3, 1-2) was behind 20-0 before getting on the board with a 25-yard scoring pass from Riley Adams to Kalib Brown with 10 minutes left in the first half.
Brown got a comeback started by returning the second half kickoff for a touchdown. A scoring run by Aiden Williams and a keeper to the end zone by Adams had the hosts within 34-28 with 2:32 remaining.
South got the ball near midfield after blocking a punt but after picking up a couple of first downs, Sterling Artis of CBA broke up a pass in the end zone on the final play.
South travels to Southern Wayne on Friday, October 7.
