Central advances in NCHSAA soccer playoffs with 2-1 win

Harnett Central used a goal by Richard Diego in the 73rd minute to defeat visiting Northwood, 2-1, on Monday in the first round of the NCHSAA 3-A boys soccer playoffs.

Axel Cuellar assisted on the game winner as the ninth-seeded Trojans improved to 12-5.

A throw-in from Ryan Glasson led to a goal from Diego for a 1-0 Central lead in the 22nd minute. Northwood (11-10-1) evened the score in the 33rd minute.

The Trojans visit No. 8 Burlington Williams (15-3-2) in the second round on Thursday at 6 p.m.
