Harnett Central made a fast start and got away to a 10-0 baseball victory over North Johnston on Tuesday for third place in the 8-team Johnston County Easter Invitational at South Johnston.

The Trojans had a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when they got some good fortune.

“We got a break on a ball that fell in front of the center fielder and that allowed two more runs,” said Central coach Zach Bingham.

Another run in the third and six more in the fifth closed out the contest in five innings as Rylan Wester tossed a 2-hitter with no walks and nine strikeouts.

“He was lights out,”: said Bingham of the sophomore right-hander.

Hitting support included a 3-for-3 effort by Brayden Sears with four RBIs. Aidan Taylor was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Wester helped his own cause with a pair of his and a run.

Keoki Monte, Layton Babb and Wesley Babb also had hit for the Trojans.

Central’s all-tournament choices included Brantley Champion, Taylor and Wester.

The Trojans return to All American Conference play at E.E. Smith on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
