CFCA advances to softball Final Four with 10-4 victory

Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity softball team defeated visiting Northeast Academy 10-4 on Tuesday to advance to the Final Four in the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 1-A playoffs.

CFCA is hosting the double-elimination Final Four on Friday and Saturday. The Eagles play Lawrence Academy on Friday at 10 a.m. Ridgecroft and Pungo meet at noon.

A 5-run second inning helped CFCA to a 6-1 lead on Tuesday. When Northeast pulled within 6-4 in the top of the third, the Eagles responded with four runs in the bottom of the third.

Rhyleigh Horne pitched a complete game for CFCA. She allowed five hits and no earned runs while walking one with 10 strikeouts. At the plate, she was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Jada Horne went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the win. Kristen Bass had a double and scored two runs. Claire Parker had a double and scored a run. Paige Jeffries had an RBI and scored twice. Shelby Hodges had a hit. Harmony Horne scored a run.
