Cape Fear Christian Academy took a 3-0 varsity volleyball victory over visiting Northwood Temple on Monday in the opening round of the Sandhills Athletic Conference tournament.
Set scores were 25-11, 25-19 and 28-26.
Third-seeded CFCA (13-8) advances to a semifinal at second-seeded Freedom Christian (13-7) tonight at 7 p.m.
The Eagles overcame some absent personnel in taking their third win of the season against NTA.
“The players stepped up and unified,” said CFCA coach Paul Hobbs. “A setter (Rhyleigh Horne) stepped up to be a great libero for us, which gave us an edge.”
The Eagles are hopeful of having a full roster for the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 1-A Tournament next week.
