Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity boys basketball team held off visiting Grace Christian of Sanford for a 57-46 win on Thursday night.
The Eagles had an 18-point lead reduced to five points in the late stages before improving to 8-2 with a late run after Grace (7-4) began fouling to stop the clock.
The Crusaders had topped CFCA, 55-45, in Sanford on Nov. 21.
The Eagles led 12-8 after eight minutes and were on top, 32-18, at the half.
“We executed well to start, but when the game sped up we seemed to let them dictate the pace a little more than we wanted,” said CFCA coach Kalen Eddings. “An emphasis of ours was to control the pace. We have to be a little better controlling the game when we have a lead.
“Teams turn up pressure to get back in the ball game, so we have to expect that and handle it with better poise and shot selection.”
Jeremyah McWilliams and Austin Locklear each had 11 points for CFCA. McWilliams blocked five shots. Paul Tako had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Greg Moneymaker scored seven points. Mel Carter had six points and three assists. Sila Tako had six points and five rebounds. Milos Prodonovic and Zeke Brock added three points apiece.
Senior guard Phillip Martin had 21 points for Grace and senior guard Jonah Murr added 15.

The Lady Eagles outscored the visitors 12-0 in the fourth quarter.
Zykia Matthews scored seven points for CFCA (5-3). Kristen Bass had six points, Aubree Bass scored four and Laney Trainer tallied three.
Grace (9-1) was led by Anna Baraldi with 17 points and Scarlet Prater with 10.
