Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity boys basketball team rallied for an 81-78 nonconference win over visiting Wake Christian on Thursday night.
DeShawn Woods hit the game-winning 3-pointer for the Eagles to finish with 31 points. David Okropiridze claimed the defensive rebound on the Bulldogs’ last possession.
Zeke Brock had 25 points and 12 assists for CFCA (11-8).
The Eagles stayed in a 3-2 zone after Wake Christian called a timeout with 20 seconds left.
“We just wanted to play basic basketball,” said CFCA coach Dwain Ellis. “Dig if the ball went low and extend if they kicked it out. The effort was there on the last stop.”
Okropiridze tracked down a tying 3-point attempt from the left corner as the final tenths ticked away.
The Eagles trailed by margins of 13-4 and 20-11 as Wake Christian (8-14) sought to atone for an 82-67 home loss to CFCA on November 16. The Bulldogs hit seven shots from beyond the arc in the first half.
Reid Miller had eight points for the Eagles in the second meeting before picking up his fifth foul. Jakson Cullen had seven points and five rebounds. Okropiridze scored six and Trevor McLamb added four points.
Wake Christian took a 45-37 win in the varsity girls game.
Leading scorers for the Lady Eagles were Cailee Ray with 14 points, Ella John Dupree with 11 and Perri Caroline Ennis with 10.
