CFCA brings home middle school championships in boys soccer, volleyball

Cape Fear Christian Academy won Mid-Carolina Conference tournament championships in middle school boys soccer and volleyball at Lee Christan on Tuesday.

Volleyball

The Eagles were regular season MCC champions and No. 1 seed for the conference tournament. CFCA defeated Cresset, 2-1 (25-18, 13-25, 17-15) in the final.

Callie Wilson had five aces in the final. Bristol Stephens had four. Mady Tyndall had two. Olivia Thompson and Sailor Phillips each had one.

Avery Lassiter totaled six kills on Tuesday. Thompson had four, Tyndall had two and Stephens, one.

“The second set was tough and we got down, but they pulled together in the third set as a team to play their game and won the championship,” said CFCA coach Falon Kessler. “I am so proud of these girls and how hard they have worked this season.”

The Eagles finished with a 16-1 record.

Boys soccer

The Eagles (6-5) had lost to Crossroads twice during the regular season but topped the Colts, 1-0, in the MCC championship on Tuesday as Eli Shwaikeh scored a goal in the first half.

“We made some defensive adjustments and played very well defensively in the second half,” said CFCA coach Brandon Shwaikeh.

Jayce Barker was in goal for the shutout.
