CFCA claims conference crown in girls tennis

Cape Fear Christian Academy’s girls tennis team defeated Fayetteville Christian, 7-2, on Thursday to finish 4-0 for the regular season in the Sandhills Athletic Conference and claim the league championship.

Singles winners for the Eagles, 4-2 overall, were Anna Jackson (6-1, 6-0) at No. 2, Madeline Brocious (6-1, 6-1) at No. 3, Aubrey Jackson (6-2, 6-3) at No. 4 and Karson Hamilton (6-0, 6-0) at No. 6.

CFCA freshman Ella John Dupree bounced back from a loss in the No. 1 singles to Genoveva Willocks, likely the SAC Player of the Year, to team with Anna Jackson for an 8-5 win in the No. 1 doubles.

Brocious and Aubrey Jackson won 8-1 in the No. 2 doubles. Nina Sauer and Hamilton won the No. 3 doubles, 8-5.

The Eagles are coached by Page Jackson.

CFCA plays Community Christian at Lake Wilson Club in Elm City today (Friday, October 2) at 4 p.m. It will be the first match of the season on clay courts for the Eagles.

CFCA will be the defending champions for the SAC Tournament later this month.
