The Cape Fear Christian Academy varsity girls basketball team defeated visiting Bradford, 63-19, in the first round of the NCISAA 1-A Tournament on Tuesday night.

The unseeded Lady Eagles (6-10) advance to a second-round matchup at Lawrence (14-8), the No. 7 seed, on Thursday at 6 p.m.

“Awesome playoff win,” said CFCA coach Ray Butts.

Senior point guard Ella John Dupree had 24 points for the Lady Eagles, who had taken a 54-29 win at Bradford on December 1 and a 63-30 victory over the Archers at home on January 23 in Mid-Carolina Conference matchups.

Glenna McLamb had 20 points in the third meeting. Senior Perri Caroline Ennis tallied eight points and classmates Laney Trainer and Madeline Brocious added six and two points, respectively.

Lily Kate Dupree hit a 3-pointer with 2:22 left to play on an assist from her sister, Ella John, that put the clock in a running mode the rest of the way.
