CFCA heads for hoops tournament at the coast

Cape Fear Christian Academy heads for Southeastern Christian Academy in Shallotte for a varsity basketball tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Eagles open the event at 3:30 p.m. against Triad Baptist. The CFCA boys play the same school at 5 p.m.

Teams from Southeastern and Lee Christian play Friday night.

There are consolation and championship games on Saturday.

CFCA swept its Mid-Carolina Conference varsity contests at home against Bradford on Monday with the girls holding off a comeback, 43-39, before the boys improved to 10-0 and 4-0 in league play with a 67-21 win.

Varsity Boys

Lathan Wilborn had 12 points. Caden Scarborough and Justin Chestnut added 10 points each.

The offensive effort included Cade Godwin with eight points, Kayden Dunkins (6), Eli Burns (6), Micah Andemichael (5), Conner Parrish (4), Connor Shirley (3) and Elijah Ellis (2).

The Eagles won, 64-29, at O’Neal on Saturday as Dunkins had 18 points and nine rebounds.

Scarborough had 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Also contributing points were Wilborn (8), Chestnut (7), Godwin (6), Parrish (6), Ellis (5) and Burns (2).

Varsity Girls

The win over Bradford was costly as post player Savannah Autry sustained a fracture in her lower left arm and will be out several weeks.

Autry had 10 points and 10 rebounds before the injury.

Glenna McLamb had 18 points for the CFCA girls (3-4, 2-1 MCC).

Lily Kate Dupree had six points. Ella Wilborn had three points. Adding two points each were Courtney Butts, Mary Andemichael and Hailey Wangelin.
