Zykia Matthews (12) makes a play at the net Thursday for the CFCA varsity.

The Cape Fear Christian Academy junior varsity volleyball team finished the regular season unbeaten with Sandhills Athletic Conference road wins at Village Christian on Thursday and Freedom Christian on Friday.

The CFCA JV is 8-0 and will be the top seed for next week’s conference tournament.

The CFCA varsity is 10-8 overall and 7-3 in league play after topping Village, 3-1, on Thursday and falling 3-0
at Freedom on Friday.

The seeding for the conference tournament for the Eagle varsity will be determined at a conference meeting today (Saturday, October 5).

Varsity set scores at Village were 25-7, 25-18, 22-25 and 25-21.

Claire Parker led the Eagles in kills with seven, Reyna Johnson had six and Meghan Taylor had five.

Zykia Matthews had nine blocks. Meredith Taylor and Talisha McNeill each had three blocks.

“Blocking I think was the big thing that helped the team because once we got off the defense and could focus on offense, our offense really got going and I saw some kills that I haven’t seen out of some of the girls yet this season,” said CFCA coach Brittany Ter Meer.

Freedom, the 2018 NCISAA 2-A champions, improved to 10-0 in the SAC on Friday by scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-17. The Patriots are 20-2 overall.
