Cape Fear Christian Academy’s middle school baseball team improved to 5-0 with a 7-2 win over visiting Freedom Christian of Fayetteville on Wednesday.
CFCA started out strong on the mound with Eli Burns retiring the Patriots in order in the first.
The Eagles went ahead to stay in the bottom of the first as Cason Pope reached on a hard-hit ball to left field. Pope stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball.
Alan Hinson hit a triple to drive in Pope. Burns followed up with a hard-hit ball to left to score Hinson for a 2-0 lead. Burns scored on a passed ball for a 3-0 advantage.
Errors helped the visitors score twice in the top of the second.
CFCA pushed its lead to 4-2 in the third as Rhett Alphin was walked and advanced to second on a passed ball. He scored on London Hinson’s drive to left.
The Eagles added two runs in the fourth to lead, 6-2. Pope doubled and stole third. Alan Hinson had an RBI single to center. Hinson scored after a pickoff attempt went awry for Freedom.
The final run for the hosts came in the sixth after a walk to Conner Parrish. He stole second and went to third on a passed ball. An RBI double down the left field line by Burns scored Parrish.
Fisher Stancil subdued the Patriots in the seventh.
Alan Hinson went 2-for-3 for the Eagles with a triple, two RBIs, a walk and two runs.
Burns, who is hitting .769, was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and one run.
Pope went 2-for-3 with a double and scored twice.
Landon McLamb had a hit on a liner to center. London Hinson had a hit and drove in a run. Alphin drew three walks and scored one run. Parrish had a pair of walks and scored.
Parrish threw out a runner stealing to end the top of the fourth.
Burns went three innings on the mound with one hit, one walk and five strikeouts. Alan Hinson pitched three innings, allowing two hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
Stancil had two strikeouts and a pickoff in the seventh.
Pope and Stancil teamed up for a 6-4-3 double play that stood out defensively.
“I am very proud of this team,” said CFCA coach Bill Parrish. “They have worked very hard and continue to get better each game.”
The Eagles have a nonconference game Thursday at Lee Christian.
