CFCA middle school baseball rolls, girls soccer nipped on PK

Cape Fear Christian Academy hosted Fayetteville Christian in Southeastern Middle School Athletic Conference matchups on Monday afternoon.

The Eagles improved to 2-0 in baseball with a 19-2 win.

The visitors won the girls soccer contest, 4-3, on a penalty kick in the closing minutes after a hand ball in the box was called on CFCA.

The Eagles are scheduled to host the O’Neal School in baseball and girls soccer on Wednesday (March 23) at 3:30 p.m., weather permitting.

Burns leads baseball

Eli Burns led CFCA at the plate, going 2-for-2 with six runs batted in. Burns had an inside-the-park home run with the bases loaded and also was hit by a pitch.

Fisher Stancil was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs. Landon McLamb was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Tyson Stephens was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

The Eagles drew 13 walks.

Cason Pope pitched the first two innings and faced 13 batters with six strikeouts.

Stephens pitched the final inning and struck out three with one walk and one hit.

Young scores twice

CFCA got two goals from Gwynn Young in the girls soccer game and Harper Shook scored one.

Rosemary Sprague had two assists in the Eagles’ season opener.
