CFCA middle school baseball starts season with one-sided win

After Cape Fear Christian Academy middle school baseball coach Bill Parrish and others worked to get a wet field in playable condition on Thursday, the Eagles enjoyed the fruits of their labors with a 26-2 season-opening win over visiting Northwood Temple.

The Southeastern Conference contest was halted after the top of the third inning on the mercy rule.

CFCA had 13 hits in 20 at-bats and drew 15 walks.

Conner Parrish was 2-for-2 with an inside-the-park home run off the left-field fence. He had five RBIs and drew two walks.

Winning pitcher Eli Burns was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs. He drew a walk and was hit by a pitch.

Burns allowed one hit and struck out seven of the 12 batters he faced in three innings.

Cason Pope had a double, a walk and two RBIs. Fisher Stancil had a hit, two walks and two RBIs. Alan Hinson had a hit, a walk and three RBIs.

Rhett Alphin had a hit, a walk and an RBI.

Mason Gregory, Parker McLamb, Tyson Stephens and Thomas Honeycutt each had one hit and one RBI.

The CFCA middle school team is scheduled to host Fayetteville Christian on Monday at 4 p.m.
