Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity softball team regrouped in a round robin tournament at Halifax Academy on Saturday to defeat Southampton (Va.) Academy, 6-1.
The Eagles opened with a 14-2 loss to Brunswick (Va.) Academy before falling to host Halifax, 8-0. Southampton had beaten Brunswick and Halifax before losing to CFCA.
Winning pitcher Jada Horne was a standout offensively as well in the third game of the day for the Eagles, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and scoring twice. She struck out four from the circle while allowing one run on two hits.
Kristen Bass was 3-for-4 against Southampton with a run and an RBI. Aubree Bass had a 3-run double. Paige Jeffries had a hit, was hit by a pitch and had an RBI. Shelby Hodges had a hit and scored a run. Claire Parker was 1-for-1 with two walks and scored once.
Ansley McLamb drew two walks and scored a run against Brunswick. Aubree Bass went 2-for-2. Horne had a hit, a run and an RBI. Kristen Bass was 1-for-1 and drew a walk.
Brunswick benefitted from four errors by the Eagles.
Jeffries, Kristen Bass and Hodges had hits in the loss to Halifax as the Vikings avenged a 7-6 loss at CFCA on Monday.
