Cape Fear Christian Academy posted shutouts in a middle school/varsity softball doubleheader against visiting Grace Christian of Sanford on Monday as Methodist signee Kim Bordeaux had a no-hitter for the CFCA varsity.

CFCA took the middle school matchup, 8-0, and prevailed, 16-0, in the varsity contest.

The Eagles remained unbeaten in middle school play and improved to 10-3 on the varsity level.

“Kim Bordeaux pitched an outstanding game,” said CFCA coach Sterling Holmes. “Take away two errors and she threw a perfect game. Add to that going 2-for-2 with a walk, scoring three runs and even added a stolen base — I don’t think it can get much better than that.”

Bordeaux struck out seven in the four-inning contest and had plenty of offensive support as the Eagles scored in each inning. The hosts put up seven runs in the first and five in the third.

Cailee Ray and Mariah Bell each had three hits. Getting two hits apiece were Kristina Kennedy, Trinity Olive, Rhyleigh Horne and Megan Harrold. Averi Williams and Claire Parker also had hits as every player in the lineup had at least one hit.

Kennedy had four runs batted in.

“As a team, we continue to hit the ball very well,” Holmes said. “All through the lineup we had hits, with the bottom of the order hitting just as well as the top. When you can do that and play solid defense, you’re not going to lose too many games.”

Ray had a double, a triple and two RBIs. Bordeaux had a double and a triple. Bell hit two doubles. Kennedy, Olive, Horne and Harrold all had doubles.

“I’m extremely proud of this team,” Holmes said. “They maintain a positive attitude and continually challenge each other to get better. Moving forward towards the playoffs, getting better each week is a must.”
