Zeke Brock narrowly missed a triple double with 34 points, 10 assists and eight steals as the Cape Fear Christian Academy varsity boys basketball team completed a sweep of opening games in the Mid-Carolina 1-A Conference with a 99-29 victory at Cresset on Thursday night.

The visitors took a 49-42 win in the varsity girls game as Perri Caroline Ennis had 18 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

In the middle school matchups, CFCA prevailed 55-15 in the boys game and took a 34-2 win in the girls contest.

Brock made 14 of 18 field goal attempts, including one of three from beyond the arc, and hit five of six free throws.

Eighth-grader Lathan Wilborn was seven of eight from the floor in scoring 14 points. CFCA got 13 points from Wyatt Medlin and 11 from Brandon Surles.

“We had an overall great effort in the boys game,” said Dwain Ellis, who coaches both CFCA varsity teams. “Each player contributed to help with the win.”

Freshmen Caden Scarborough and Kayden Dunkins scored five points each. Adding four points apiece were Jackson Bolton, Trevor McLamb and Justin Chestnut. Elijah Ellis had three points and Cole Godwin Jr. had two.

CFCA made 42 of 73 field goal attempts for 58 percent.

McLamb had eight rebounds and Godwin grabbed seven. Bolton and Surles snared five boards each. Surles contributed three assists and three steals.

The CFCA girls (2-1) trailed 22-17 at the half.

“It was exciting,” Ellis said. “We were down throughout the second quarter, but with defensive efforts from E.J., Meredith (Taylor) and Niah (Torres), and P.C. being a force down low, we took the lead in the fourth quarter and finished strong.”

Laney Trainer had seven points for CFCA. Glenna McLamb tallied six. Taylor finished with four points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Torres and Kristina Kennedy had three points each.

The Lady Eagles play Greenfield tonight (Friday, November 18) at 7:30 p.m. in Fayetteville at Freedom Christian on Court 2 in the Elite Exposure Play Like a Girl Classic.
