Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity softball team defeated visiting Pungo Christian, 10-3, on Friday in the first game of a best-of-three series for the NCISAA 1-A championship.
The hosts went ahead to stay with four runs in the bottom of the first after the Raiders (19-2) had taken a 2-0 lead in the top of the frame.
Methodist signee Kim Bordeaux had two home runs and six RBIs for the Eagles (17-4). She also pitched and held the Raiders scoreless over the last three innings.
Cailee Ray had a home run for CFCA, which can wrap up the state title in game two on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
“We’re in good position,” said Eagles coach Sterling Holmes. “We just need to play like we are capable of playing.”
Bordeaux was 4-for-4. Rhyleigh Horne was 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI. Mount Olive signee Mariah Bell was 3-for-4 with two runs.
Ray finished 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Kristina Kennedy had a hit and drove in a run.
Winning pitcher Claire Parker also had a hit.
