Cape Fear Christian Academy matched up with Fayetteville Christian School for Sandhills Athletic Conference games on Thursday with the Eagles winning on the road in baseball and softball.
In baseball, CFCA overcame a 9-0 deficit for a 12-11 victory. The Eagles prevailed 4-3 in softball.
Fayetteville Christian took a 9-0 lead after two innings although only three of the runs earned.
Zeke Brock pitched six innings in relief. He scattered six hits, walked four and yielded four earned runs while striking out eight to get the win.
CFCA took advantage of 14 walks from the Warriors. Free passes helped cut the margin to 9-3 in the top of the third.
Eagles shortstop Wesley Jackson caught a liner to start a double play in the bottom of the third.
Reid Miller had a 2-run double in the fourth after Jaden Crumley had singled and Brock walked. Jackson walked and Miller came home on a passed ball as CFCA closed within 9-6. RBI singles by Trevor McLamb and A.J. McGarvey cut the lead to 9-8.
A bases-loaded walk to Wyatt Medlin tied the score at 9. Crumley had an RBI single to score David Clearman with the go-ahead run. Miller drove in a pair with a 2-out single to center for a 12-9 Eagles lead.
The hosts closed within 12-11 in the bottom of the sixth, but CFCA was able to retire the top of the order in the seventh to preserve the win.
“They could have easily given up, but they hung in there and believed they could come back,” said Eagles coach Marty Priebe. “They have shown resilience the last two games.”
CFCA topped Trinity Christian 10-7 for its first league win before Easter break.
Crumley was 2-for-3 with two walks. Miller was 2-for-4 with a walk and four RBIs. McLamb had a hit, two RBIs, a walk and was hit by a pitch. McGarvey was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk. Brock drew three walks. Jackson and Clearman each had a pair of walks.
Three-run seventh lifts softball
Each team scored a run in the third in softball. After Fayetteville Christian scored twice in the bottom of the sixth, CFCA responded with three runs in the top of the seventh.
A walk to Anslee McLamb forced in what proved to be the winning run.
Aubree Bass had two hits and two RBIs as CFCA improved to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in league play.
McLamb and Paige Jeffries each had two hits and an RBI. Kristen Bass had two hits. Also getting hits were Averi Williams, Rhyleigh Horne and Jada Horne.
Rhyleigh Horne pitched a complete game for the Eagles. She allowed five hits and one walk with eight strikeouts.
Girls Soccer
CFCA fell 9-0 at home to Fayetteville Christian in girls soccer. The game was stopped in the 70th minute on the mercy rule.
The Eagles managed to put some passes together and create some offensive pressure. Aubrey Jackson was active in goal.
