CFCA takes rematch with Halifax in softball

Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity softball team downed visiting Halifax Academy, 8-0, on Monday in a rematch of the 2021 North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 1-A championship.

Graduation losses have impacted the defending champion Vikings to a greater extent than the Eagles, who improved to 3-0 with Claire Parker’s second shutout of the young season.

Parker allowed four hits and struck out five over seven innings. She helped her own cause with a hit and two RBIs.

Cailee Ray had a home run, two triples and two RBIs.

Mariah Bell had two hits with a triple and an RBI.

Methodist signee Kim Bordeaux had two hits with a triple and an RBI.

Eighth-grader Kristina Kennedy had two hits and an RBI.

Halifax wins baseball

The CFCA baseball team was topped, 12-5, by Halifax.

The host Eagles (1-1) were more productive offensively in the latter stages of the game.

Landon Alphin, Cole Godwin and DeShawn Woods pitched for CFCA.

The Eagles host Lee Christian in baseball, girls soccer and softball today (Tuesday, March 1) at 4 p.m.
