CFCA takes third at tournament in Sanford

Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity volleyball team took third place in the Grace Christian Invitational in Sanford on Saturday with a 2-0 (25-8, 25-16) win over Berean Baptist of Fayetteville.

Abby Hobbs of the Eagles (8-4) was named to the all-tournament team.

CFCA has nonconference junior varsity and varsity volleyball matches at Berean today beginning at 4 p.m. as well as a varsity boys soccer match at 4 p.m.

The Eagles’ varsity volleyball team played in Sanford three straight days, winning 3-1 at Lee Christian on Thursday to move into sole possession of first place in the Mid-Carolina Conference with a 3-0 league record.

CFCA defeated The Burlington School, 2-0 (25-14, 25-22) in the event at Grace on Friday before falling to the eventual champion, New Life Camp, the No. 27 team in the state in the MaxPreps rankings, 0-2 (12-25, 19-25).

The Eagles are scheduled to visit Village Christian today at 4 p.m. for middle school volleyball (Gold team) and middle school boys soccer matches.

CFCA will play girls tennis at Harrells Christian today at 3:30 p.m., weather permitting.
