Reyna Johnson makes a dig for Cape Fear Christian on Thursday.

Cape Fear Christian Academy won all three of its volleyball matches on Thursday. CFCA took a 3-0 Sandhills Athletic Conference varsity win over visiting Northwood Temple Academy to finish the day after winning the junior varsity match, 2-0.

The CFCA middle school team played at The O’Neal School in Southern Pines and won 2-0, 2-1 to improve to 6-0 in the Southeastern Conference.

CFCA won the varsity match by scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-15.

“The outsides really helped lead the team,” said CFCA coach Brittany Ter Meer.

Reyna Johnson had nine kills in the win and Claire Parker added eight. Johnson had nine aces, including six in a second set rally.

“The middles were a force,” Ter Meer said. “That helped stop the opponent from getting into an offensive rhythm.”

Meredith Taylor had seven blocks and Talisha McNeill had three.

“The team is really starting to come together and we couldn’t have asked for a better home crowd which aids in the enthusiasm of the game,” Ter Meer said.

The NTA boys soccer team came to the gym and voiced their support for the visitors after taking a 5-0 win over the youthful CFCA side. The home students, seated behind the CFCA bench, got into the game and the noise level was notable in the third set.

“I am really excited to see how the rest of this season goes,” Ter Meer said. “The girls seem pretty excited since they are beginning to run plays on offense. Plus this win was nice against a team that had beaten us at the beginning of the season.”

NTA topped CFCA, 2-1, in the compacted format of a tournament at Lee Christian on Aug. 24.

The CFCA varsity improved to 2-1 in league play.

CFCA won the JV match by scores of 25-2 and 25-9 to move to 3-0 in the SAC.

The CFCA middle school team plays at Northwood Temple on Monday at 3:30 p.m. CFCA hosts Village Christian in JV and varsity matches on Tuesday starting at 4 p.m.

The Eagles gather during a 3-0 Sandhills Athletic Conference varsity win.
