Visiting Crossroads Christian of Henderson scored with just over four minutes remaining for a 3-2 varsity boys soccer win over Cape Fear Christian Academy in the quarterfinals of the NCISAA 1-A Tournament on Friday.

The Colts (10-7) took a 2-0 lead before Caden Scarborough got a goal on an indirect free kick to cut the lead to 2-1 at the half.

Scarborough tied the score at 2 on a penalty kick after Crossroads was called for a hand ball in the box.

Scarborough had 21 goals and nine assists as CFCA went 9-4-1 with a 2-2 record against the Colts, the 2023 state champions.

Scarborough had five shots on goal Friday. Eighth-grader Eli Shwaikeh had three shots on goal and freshman Tyson Stephens had two. Getting one shot on goal each were Gunner Dorman, Cade Godwin and Fisher Stancil.

Justin Chestnut recorded five saves with a stop on a penalty kick.

“So proud of these young men and the season they were able to put together this year,” said Eagles coach Bill Parrish.

The Eagles started 0-2 and finished with a pair of losses to the Colts in the Mid-Carolina Conference tournament semifinals and state quarterfinals. In between the losses, the Eagles went 9-0-1 with a pair of one-goal wins over Crossroads, which produced a share of the regular season MCC championship with Cresset.

“We quit ball chasing and started playing more soccer after the first few games this season,” Parrish said. “I’m excited to see how they do next season.”

Micah Andemichael is the lone senior on the 2024 CFCA team.
