Wake Christian holds on for varsity boys win at CFCA

Visiting Wake Christian took three basketball wins at Cape Fear Christian Academy on Thursday night.

CFCA outscored the Bulldogs, 53-35, in the second half of the varsity boys matchup but ran out of time in a 74-73 loss.

The visitors won the girls game, 58-53.

Zeke Brock scored 28 points for the CFCA varsity boys. Kayden Dunkins and Caden Scarborough came off the bench for 14 and 12 points, respectively. Jakson Cullen scored nine, Wyatt Medlin tallied five and Jusstin Chestnut and Lathan Wilborn added four each.

Senior Bradley Coon led Wake with 22 points.

“We struggled in the first half, but did well with adjustments,” said Eagles varsity boys coach Dwain Ellis.

Ella John Dupree had 24 points for the CFCA girls. Perri Caroline Ennis scored 11. Glenna McLamb and Laney Trainer had five points each for the Lady Eagles. Savannah Autry and Madeline Brocious tallied four points apiece.

“Really proud of how we competed against a good team,” said Lady Eagles coach Ray Butts. “Every day we are getting better.”

The CFCA varsities are each 0-2 against higher classification teams.

Conner Parrish and Eli Burns each had seven points for the CFCA junior varsity boys in a 47-26 loss to Wake Christian.

Fisher Stancil scored five points. Cade Godwin tallied three points. Eli Shwaikeh and Chris Crume had two points each.

“We had scoring opportunities, but the shots weren’t falling,” said Eagles JV coach Bill Parrish.

CFCA visits Harrells on Tuesday for junior varsity, varsity girls and varsity boys games beginning at 4 p.m.

The Eagle middle school teams host O’Neal today (Monday, November 13) beginning at 4 p.m.
