Cape Fear Christian avenged a loss to Grace Christian of Sanford on Saturday by topping the Crusaders, 3-2, in the Eagles’ gym on Thursday.
Set scores were 16-25, 25-22, 25-21, 18-25 and 15-6.
Grace had topped the Eagles 2-0 in a compacted format at Lee Christian.
“The game proved to the team how much they have grown,” said CFCA coach Brittany Ter Meer. “We saw Grace on Saturday and lost to them. Beating them on our home court was a real moral booster.
“Grace is a veteran team and a smart team when they play but the girls were able to pull it together and reduce the amount of errors we made.
“The team is beginning to come together and everyone is performing in their positions very well.”
Reyna Johnson led CFCA in scoring with seven kills and seven aces. Meredith Taylor and Claire Parker each had six kills.
Meredith Taylor had four blocks in the Eagles’ second straight win at home.
“That really helped in shutting down the opponents because that led to a free ball game where we could run our offense,” Ter Meer said.
The CFCA junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams start their Sandhills Athletic Conference schedules at Fayetteville Christian on Tuesday. The JV match starts at 4 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
