Cape Fear Christian Academy took a 7-6 nonconference varsity softball win over visiting Halifax Academy on Monday afternoon.
Halifax has won the last two NCISAA 1-A championships and has moved to 2-A this year. The Vikings stranded the tying run in the top of the seventh as Claire Parker ended the game with a strikeout.
Halifax led 3-1 after the first inning, but the Eagles rallied to lead 6-5 after two frames. The hosts added a run in the third and the visitors scored once in the seventh.
Anslee McLamb went 2-for-4 as CFCA improved to 3-0. Kristen Bass was 1-for-2 with a walk, one run and two RBIs. Aubree Bass was 2-for-3 with a 3-run double. Meghan Taylor was 1-for-1 with a run. Shelby Hodges was 1-for-2 with a triple and scored a run.
Rhyleigh Horne started in the circle for CFCA, pitching one and two-thirds innings. She allowed five runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Parker finished the game. She yielded one run on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts as her record improved to 2-0.
CFCA hosts Freedom Christian for a middle school/varsity softball doubleheader beginning today at 3 p.m.
