CFCA varsities dominate at Bradford, MS teams split at St. John Paul II

Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity basketball teams were dominant in Mid-Carolina Conference basketball wins Friday over host Bradford at the Graham Recreation Center.

The CFCA boys improved to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-Carolina Conference with a 74-15 win.

The Lady Eagles are 2-3 on the season and 1-0 in league play after a 54-29 win over the Archers.

Zeke Brock had 16 points for the Eagle boys. Justin Chestnut scored 12 and Cole Godwin added 10.

“Everyone got plenty of minutes,” said CFCA boys coach Dwain Ellis. “We hustled and shared the ball.”

The CFCA girls were led by 24 points from post player Perri Caroline Ennis. Glenna McLamb scored 18 points. Laney Trainer had seven points, Ella John Dupree added three points and Savannah Autry tallied two.

“Great win for the girls,” said Lady Eagles coach Ray Butts.

Next action for the CFCA varsity boys will be a conference matchup with New Garden Friends at home on Monday at 5:30 p.m. following a junior varsity boys contest with the Bears at 4 p.m.

The CFCA varsity girls return to action on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in an MCC matchup at Crossroads Christian in Henderson.

The Eagle varsities will host Bradford on January 23.

Middle School

CFCA split its nonconference middle school games at St. John Paul II of Southern Pines on Friday as the boys took a 48-28 win after the girls absorbed a 24-21 loss.

Eli Shwaikeh had 21 points for the Eagle boys (1-). Gunner Dorman scored 10 points. Tyson Stephens had eight points. Parker McLamb and Luke Meyer added two points each.

The CFCA teams visit Crossroads to start conference play on Monday. The girls play at 4 p.m. with the boys to follow.

The Eagle middle school teams are scheduled to host St. John Paul II on January 29.
