Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity boys basketball team prevailed in a nonconference matchup with visiting Riverside for a 57-45 win as the Eagles improved to 5-0 on Thursday night.
The Royals played physical, too physical in fact as they finished with only four players due to foul disqualifications.
“They have upgraded,” said CFCA coach Dwain Ellis. “They gave us a run for our money. We had some struggles with our shooting, but our free throws were falling, which helped us seal the victory.”
Caden Scarborough had 15 points, four assists and four steals. Elijan Ellis scored 10 points on 4 for 8 field goal shooting. Kayden Dunkins contributed 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Justin Chestnut had eight points and 10 rebounds, including six off the offensive glass.
Riverside took the varsity girls game, 76-35, despite a double-double from Savannah Autry that included 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Glenna McLamb had 11 points for the Lady Eagles (1-3). Christianna Wynns had six points, Ella Wilborn scored four and Grace Bruha added two.
Eli Shwaikeh had 16 points in a 56-45 win for the CFCA junior varsity boys (1-1). Lathan Wilborn scored 13 points and pulled down five rebounds.
Fisher Stancil tallied nine points. Scoring eight each were Eli Burns and Cade Godwin, who also had five rebounds.
The CFCA varsity teams open Mid-Carolina Conference play on Monday against Bradford at the Mebane Arts and Community Center. The girls game starts a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
