E.J. Bethea scored 30 points as the Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity boys basketball team took a 62-46 Sandhills Athletic Conference win over visiting Fayetteville Christian on Tuesday night.
Ramiro Arrillaga contributed some big plays on the defensive end as the Eagles (17-7, 2-1) outscored the Warriors, 20-9, in the fourth quarter.
Bethea had 13 points in the last eight minutes.
Arrillaga and Lucas Capalbo had nine points each. Parker Watson scored five points. Riley Adams had four points. Greg Moneymaker had three points and Dillon Butler scored two.
CFCA led 33-23 at the half but Fayetteville Christian rallied to go ahead in the third quarter. CFCA began its closing surge to lead 42-37 going into the fourth quarter.
Fayetteville Christian won the girls game, 65-16. Scoring five points each for CFCA (6-6, 1-2) were Anslee McLamb and Leah Brannon. Kristen Bass had four points. Talisha McNeill and Aubree Bass added one point each.
CFCA was turned back 66-53 in the junior varsity boys game despite a 30-point effort by Zeke Brock. Deshawn Wooda had 13 points and Owen Gregory scored 10. The visitors led 33-31 at the half before outscoring the Eagles 16-7 in the third quarter.
The junior Eagles are 9-2 overall and 1-2 in league play.
CFCA continues its Sandhills schedule at Freedom Christian on Friday night.
