Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity vollyball team downed visiting Crossroads Christian, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-12) on Senior Night for the Eagles on Monday.

Laney Avery, Rhyleigh Horne and Meredith Taylor were recognized from the Class of 2023 before CFCA improved to 5-0 in the Mid-Carolina 1-A Conference.

“We started our match by dedicating our play to the seniors,” said Eagles coach Paul Hobbs. “I really think that joined the players together for one common purpose to finish off a great Senior Night with a win.

“The love and dedication of these players for one another is amazing.”

Abby Hobbs had five aces for CFCA. Getting two aces each were Bailey Dorman, Madeline Brocious and Aslan Parrish.

Dorman led the Eagles in kills with 11. Hobbs had nine, Taylor had six and Brocious made five.

Hobbs had 15 assists and Horne added three.

Horne led the way in assists with 16, Dorman had six, Parrish and Hobbs had six apiece, and Avery had five.

Taylor finished with two blocks.

Crossroads took the junior varsity match, 2-0, and won its match against CFCA’s middle school Royal team, 2-1.

The Eagles’ middle school Gold team split its matches at St. John Paul II of Southern Pines on Monday.

Soccer

CFCA was topped, 3-2, in varsity boys soccer by visiting Crossroads Christian on Monday, dropping the Eagles to 2-2 in the Mid-Carolina Conference going into a match at Lee Christian on Thursday at 5 p.m.

“Overall, we played very well,” said CFCA coach Michael Breslin. “They scored one goal when we left a player unmarked inside the 18. Their second goal came from a penalty kick.”

The hosts scored twice in the first half as Jackson Breslin was assisted by Sam Medlin and Breslin assisted Caden Scarborough.

“We went into halftime tied at 2,” said Coach Breslin. “Overall, it was a very evenly played match. Our midfielders and defenders did a very good job neutralizing their stronger players and our offense was able to get shots on frame.

“The deciding goal was a fluke. Our keeper took his eye off the ball and it went between his legs and into the goal. It was just one of those things — he’ll make that save 999 times out of 1,000.”

Crossroads was a 5-0 winner over short-handed CFCA in the middle school boys soccer match.

Middle School Girls Golf

The CFCA middle school girls golf team remained undefeated at Eagle Ridge on Monday as a medalist score of 47 by Carolina Wynns helped the Eagles (158) top Wake Christian and Freedom (180).

CFCA was scheduled to play at Quail Ridge on Tuesday.
