South Johnston’s varsity boys basketball team was dealt its second Greater Neuse 3-A Conference loss by Clayton on Friday night as the Comets held off the Trojans for a 67-59 win.
Clayton had taken a 65-51 win at South on Jan. 10.
South trailed 38-22 at halftime but closed within three points in a comeback in the most recent meeting. C.J. Ray had 24 points in the loss, including 10 in the fourth quarter.
The outcome dropped the Trojan boys to 17-3 for the season and 4-2 in the league.
Clayton won the girls game, 37-29, in overtime.
The South teams continue league play at West Johnston on Tuesday night.
